A daring diver jumped head first into the waters of Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium to give some early support for Christmas Jumper Day.
On Friday, December 16th Save the Children is inviting people everywhere to don their silliest festive knits and donate to help raise money for the charity.
They’re hoping to harness the nation’s pullover power to help millions of children around the world.
While underwater, aquarist Robert Davidson also took the time to help put the finishing touches to dressing the aquarium sub-aquatic Christmas tree.
Blue Reef’s Hannah Butt, who is organising a special fundraising event at the aquarium, said: “We wanted to help promote Christmas Jumper Day because it’s a fun way for everybody to get involved and help needy children worldwide.
“Pretty much everyone has a really cheesy Xmas sweater and this is the perfect opportunity to get it on and wear it with pride, rather than embarrassment…for one day at least!
“Our brave volunteer went one step further and actually jumped into our tropical ocean display in his Santa jumper to help raise awareness about next Friday.
“At first the fish weren’t quite sure what to make of him but, as fish often use strong colours to communicate their emotions, the bright red top clearly made quite an impression on them,” she added.
As an added incentive Blue Reef will be offering anyone who arrives wearing a Christmas jumper on Friday, December 16th – Sunday, December 18th 20% off the on the door admission price for adult, child, senior and student tickets.
The aquarium will also be getting into the festive spirit by giving away ‘Christmas presents’ on all three days – all visitors have to do is make a donation to Save the Children and their name will automatically go into a draw to take part in either an ocean tunnel feed, a stingray feed or a shark feed.
